Rabbi David Wolpe suggested a project that could foster tolerance. The project that he dreams of is this: “Have the leaders of the right and the left commit themselves once a year to giving a speech offering the best case for the other side.” Now there’s a good idea we could all consider, not just the leaders. Try to put ourselves in the place of someone who holds ideas antithetical to our own. Take the role of the other. And from that perspective plan initiatives to advocate for causes that we want while at the same time understanding how someone with very different views might think about our suggestion.
